Tropical North Queensland has always punched above its weight when it comes to food. From rainforest-fed farms and coastal fisheries to world-class chefs, distillers and producers, our region has a story unlike anywhere else in Australia — vibrant, seasonal, diverse and deeply local.
Now TTNQ is asking our entire food, drink and agritourism community to help put that story firmly on the map.
Eat Local Month: A New Chapter for FNQ’s Food Identity
Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) is developing a major region-wide initiative for April 2026: Eat Local Month, a celebration designed to highlight the flavours, people and places that make Tropical North Queensland unique.
Instead of one single festival, Eat Local Month will become a month-long constellation of events spread from Cardwell to the Cape — each one shaped by the businesses who know our food story best. This is about opening the door for cafés, restaurants, producers, farms, food retailers, bars, hotels, breweries, distilleries and agritourism operators to participate in a way that suits their business.
Think:
• a special dish celebrating a seasonal local ingredient
• a producer–chef collaboration
• a themed weekend dining package at a hotel
• a bespoke tasting flight
• a farm experience or workshop
• a one-night-only event that tells your story
If it celebrates FNQ food and drink, it belongs in Eat Local Month.
A Campaign Designed to Grow With the Region
TTNQ is currently finalising the name and logo, with an industry launch planned for mid-January and a public reveal in mid-February. This phased rollout will build momentum, encourage early participation, and give operators time to plan their involvement.
But the real significance goes beyond 2026.
Eat Local Month is designed to become an annual legacy program — something that grows in scale, visibility and impact every year, strengthening FNQ’s position as a food tourism powerhouse both nationally and internationally.
With more than 1,300 food and beverage businesses in the region, the potential for collaboration, storytelling and visitor draw is immense.
A Collective Moment — And an Open Invitation
TTNQ is calling on members across food service, accommodation, events, agritourism, food retail, drinks, and allied industries to help bring this initiative to life.
Every participating event, dish or experience will be publicised across TTNQ’s destination channels and shared with media — ensuring the world sees the quality, creativity and authenticity that define FNQ’s food culture.
This is the moment for our region to stand united and show exactly what we can do.
How You Can Take Part
Participation is intentionally simple and flexible. Your event or contribution can be:
✔ small or large
✔ one night or one month
✔ immersive or subtle
✔ chef-driven or producer-led
If it showcases local ingredients, local producers or local talent, it’s part of the story.
TTNQ encourages operators to partner with each other — cafés with farmers, hotels with distillers, chefs with growers — to amplify visibility and create experiences worthy of the region.
Let’s Put FNQ Food on the Map

Eat Local Month is our opportunity to show the depth, ambition and character of our region — and to remind visitors that Tropical North Queensland is one of the most exciting food destinations in Australia.
