FNQ WELCOMES BACK TASTE PORT DOUGLAS

Some of Australia’s most inspiring chefs and industry leaders will arrive in Port Douglas next month to deliver an unforgettable culinary experience over a four-day festival of the senses.

This October, the appetising events of Taste Port Douglas, Presented by Sheraton, will serve up the best in food and drink of Far North Queensland with a strong sense of community across a long weekend of fantastic food fare.

After its four-year hiatus, foodies will have cutlery at the ready as Taste Port Douglas, Presented by Sheraton, marks its highly anticipated return to Port Douglas from 7th to 10th October 2021. Led by Spencer Patrick (Harrisons, Port Douglas), the festival will welcome some of Australia’s leading chefs to the table, including Ben Williamson, Alanna Sapwell and Laura Sharrad.

Throughout the weekend, Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas will become the bustling epicentre of foodie heaven with its breathtaking backdrop and beachside location. Guests can expect only the finest, including the coveted Port Douglas Long Lunch, staged in the heart of Port Douglas and featuring four top local restaurants - Salsa, Sassi, Zinc and Harrisons - in collaboration with prominent Australian chefs.

On Saturday 9th October, Taste Port Douglas will culminate with the bustling Sheraton Festival Village by day and the infamous Harry Hawker Street Food Party by night, featuring live cooking demonstrations from some of Australia’s top Chefs, food and beverage stalls presented by local suppliers, masterclasses, popup bars, industry talks, live music and more - something for everyone.

To minimise the festival’s impact on landfill waste, help support people in need and enhance education surrounding single-use plastic-free businesses and events, Taste Port Douglas is proud to partner with OzHarvestGreen Food AustraliaPlastic Free Cairns & DouglasDouglas Shire Council and Wallaby Water.

Taste Port Douglas is also working closely with local restaurants and suppliers to feature the best local and Australian produce across the festival, including Simon George & SonsISP Seafood, Port Produce, Australian Pork, Santiago PrawnsDaintree Saltwater BarramundiBloomfield Vanilla, and many more.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland Chief Executive Officer Mark Olsen said Taste Port Douglas would help raise the profile of the region’s food and beverage offering while enticing southerners north for a holiday. “The Great Barrier Reef and the world’s oldest rainforest attract people to Tropical North Queensland, but many Australian visitors are only just discovering our excellent tropical produce and cuisine is an attraction too,” he said.

Widely known for their decadent signature buffets, the Sheraton road from Port Douglas could not be complete without stopovers across three of Australia’s favourite Sheraton destinations - the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, Sheraton Melbourne Hotel and Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast. Hosted by some of Australia’s foodie favourites, including Colin Fassnidge, Manu Feildel and Adrian Richardson, these summer events will showcase Australia’s melting pot of cultures, where guests will be invited to indulge in a myriad of flavours from both land and sea.
