Sad news as one of Cairns' longest-running and most iconic restaurants confirms it's closure. Well-known local restauranteur and businessman Harry Sou recently announced that Cafe China is closing its main outlet at the Cairns Reef Hotel-Casino. He cited the bad trading conditions of the last three years, followed by the effects of the global pandemic as being the cause of this iconic Cairns eatery. 2019 saw the closure of Mr Sou's first Cafe China on Spence Street.
Although not all bad news as Harry was quick to explain that the plans for a Cafe China opening at Cairns Airport remain in place for next year. And the Cafe China Noodle bar at the Reef Casino on Abbott Street (pictured) remains open daily until further notice.
Cafe China plans to reopen in Cairns in the foreseeable future, although details when and where remain a closely guarded secret.
